Little Brazil Restaurant and Bar

Little Brazil Restaurant & Bar
405 Broadway St.
Myrtle Beach
843-712-2343

I've driven by this little restaurant on Broadway at least 2 times every week.  Each time I've told myself that I have to go in there one day.   "One Day" came last night.

I wasn't sure if they would be open as it was 8 p.m. on a Sunday.  Surprisingly, they were.  Upon entering, I found no one sitting at a table, but there were several folks in line paying for "to go" orders.

I went into a separate room which revealed a buffet.   Nothing fancy.  Nothing on a large scale.  In fact, the length & breadth of the Buffet can be seen through the front window in the picture above.

I was a little nervous as to how long the food had been sitting out.     And "no", I didn't ask.   The young girl at the register seemed to be the only one around and she was busy.   I grabbed a Styrofoam box  and proceeded to spoon in some of the various offerings.

One problem:  though I do speak some Spanish; I had no idea what any of these dishes were.  There were no labels. There were no heat lamps either,  which is why I figured that it must be the end of the day and they were getting ready to close up shop.

I saw the price of the buffet, but was hoping that "to-go" orders would be charged by the pound and my assumption there was correct.

I grabbed what looked like a sort of beef stew, something which looked like a sort of Cole slaw, something which looked like a sort of rice and vegetables--bordering on a Paella, and something else which looked like a sort of chicken dish.   I did de-scoop one dish back into its holding cell as I wasn't sure what it was.  It almost looked like chicken necks.   I'm adventurous, but have my limits.

Upon checking out, I asked for a brochure and was also given a business card which was good for $1 off my next visit to the sit-down style Buffet.

Sandra, the young girl behind the register, informed me that the food cooked at Little Brazil is all prepared by a native Brazilian, unlike some other Brazilian eateries around town.

My order came to $3.50, as I spooned on enough food to get a sampling of most of what was on display.

I did not eat the food last night, as I was more thirsty than hungry when I got home.   I heated it up for breakfast this morning and I have to say that I really enjoyed it.   There was an awful lot of fat left on the beef in the "stew", but I'm sure that's where the robust flavor came from.   It is unusual to see all of that fat jiggling off a piece of meat at any restaurant and I think most people would send something like that back to the kitchen.

I'm not really sure what to make of Little Brazil Restaurant & Bar.   I would like to see it during the daytime.  I would also like to check out the "Bar" area.  I've included picture of the brochure (below) but when I went in last night, it didn't look as elegant.   Was I expecting elegance?  Absolutely not.  I was expecting a little hole in the wall with some great Brazilian fare.   Of course, I wouldn't know Brazilian fare if it hit me in the face, but I surmise that it's a lot like Mexican peasant food.   The very basic type of food that people in very basic homes eat basically everyday in Brazil.   That's basically what I got.

If you go in to partake of the sit-down buffet, you will pay $7.99 for lunch and dinner Mon. thru Fri.
If you go in for a sit-down buffet on Sat. and Sun., the cost will be $9.99.

My plan is to go back and give this place another chance when they aren't getting ready to close.  I am ever hopeful and would love for them to live up to their color brochure.
